5Great 2.1A Charger for ANY High Current Device

By wizozzie

This is a good twin pier automobile charger.

Unlike a lot of twin USB chargers out there, it puts out a good 5v 2A stream out of a tip jack, and an above normal 5v 1A stream out of a bottom jack.

If we use a automobile wharf (especially a Google/HTC Nexus One Car Dock) we can assign your phone and run your wharf with a unchanging high peculiarity Micro USB 2 cable. This saves a lot of headache if we are regulating a singular Car DC jack for mixed devices. So, we can run a GPS Android Phone Dock, along with a customary iPod/iPhone USB 2 wire with no additional adapters or dongles. Mega space assets and confusion prevention.

The horse juts out about 1 1/2 inches from your customary sized DC jack surface. we can see since they indispensable to do this contra creation it some-more flush to a automobile panel. The thing gets comfortable with full bucket and needs a additional space. we trust they done a Powerbolt Duo as tiny as they could for a price.

Speaking of price, this adapter uses high peculiarity plastics and seems some-more costly than a MSRP price. Although a steel hit pieces are not of a high conductivity metal, we design that it would not erode even with a occasional automobile character libation spills and drips. The 30-pin Dock wire that comes with a section is a customary Kensington iPod wire quality. The wire itself is flimsier, though it's reinforced where it counts. Apple cables customarily turn distant where a wire coupler meets a connector. The enclosed Kensington wire will substantially final a few months longer with complicated use since of a reinforced areas.

Here are my experiences:

2A Jack:
Fast Charge Barnes & Noble Nook
Fast Charge Nexus One (and substantially all HTC devices)
Fast Charge and safely run Nexus One Car Dock regulating customary HTC or other reward Micro USB 2 cable
Fast Charge iPhone 4
Fast Charge iPad
Standard Charge iPhone/iPod (all)

1A Jack
Standard assign all devices, though not adequate stream to quick assign or run wharf + phone combo by itself.

The usually approach this could be improved if it were smaller, and both ports were 2A.

I rarely advise this adapter to all roadwarriors and mobile device users!

* UPDATE Aug 2011:

I am updating this examination to give we an thought of a adapter longevity. we creatively wrote this examination in late 2010. It is now late-mid 2011 and a adapter is still using well. It has survived a soda brief with successive ethanol bath to purify it.

The Kensington 30-pin wharf that we used it with has continued to offer a purpose well, distinct it's mate, an OEM (you know a fruit) wire that pennyless within 3 months.

I echo my certain examination and we rarely advise purchasing this adapter.

New equipment tested operative good with Adapter:

-Motorola Atrix Car Dock (2.1A & 1A)
-HP TouchPad (2.1A & 1A)

3Doesn't assign other USB inclination during full current

By Leonid Makarov

This horse is privately for what it says in a pretension - iPhone 4, iPad 1 and 2.
With any other USB device we will get a 0.5A max stream on both ports.
I bought this one for my Android phone meditative that USB charging specs are all standard. we was wrong...

From a examination on another site:
"The 2.1A pier implements *apple's* exclusive spec for high stream charging that is compulsory for that iPad, though a 1A pier does not
implement a USB customary for high stream charging above 500ma for smartphones and other devices. It might be rated during 1A on that second pier though a compulsory tie between pins 2 & 3 that tells your smartphone it can use >500ma is missing."

UPDATE 2011.12.06
-----------------
I finally found a horse that will yield 2x1A for my phones.

(Due to censorship - see comments for details)

The one I've got had twin pins in a center soldered on one pier though not a other. This approach a soldered one was treated by a phone as an AC adapter, a other one as a USB port.
Soldering a other one done it demeanour like an AC adapter as well. Now we have a entirely organic 2x1A automobile changer :D

I trust a same relates to a "Kensington K33497US PowerBolt Duo Car Charger" - it simply has both ports not soldered and treated as USB inclination by phones. And usually Idevices can indeed "talk to it" and figure out a correct current.

5Great device -- and low standby energy draw

By Paul Hughes

I second a other five-star reviews. This device outputs a energy it states from both ports, and, consequently, can assign anything adult to and including a iPad and iPad 2. It also runs cold even underneath load; it's a really well-engineered square of gear.

Critically for Ford owners and other automobile owners whose cigarette lighter jacks are powered even when a ignition is off, this device has VERY low standby energy draw. While this is not listed in a specs on a box, we asked Kensington tech support for a pull when a horse is plugged in though zero is charging from possibly of a USB ports. The response: "We are contemptible for a check in a responce. We would like to surprise we that a product(K33497US) draws approxmitely 5mA in mount by mode."

(I had another iPad horse that would empty my automobile battery in a few days when left plugged in though with zero charging. The Kensington seems not to have a same problem.)

In short, of all a high-powered automobile chargers out there for iPads and identical devices, this is a one to get.
