Hannah smiled as she folded her hands in front of her on her table when Miss Hartley declared, "This Saturday is a tumble picnic." Her family had usually changed from Minneapolis to northern Minnesota and it would be a ideal time to make a few new friends. Hannah's heart sank when it was announced that a cruise was going to be hold during Grove Park, a full dual miles away. It was on a Saturday and she'd need a ride. That was a large problem for Hannah since Saturday was a Sabbath. It done her prolonged for her aged home since her friends would understand.
That night she approached Mama and Papa and told them about a picnic. Mama was knitting, though frowned over her eyeglasses and stopped prolonged adequate to tell her it was unacceptable. Hannah began to plead, though Papa didn't vary as he said, "You know that Saturday is a day of rest. We don't work or expostulate on a Sabbath." The subsequent night was a repeat of a first, though Jews couldn't "forget a ways of [their] people." The other children had rides and even Miss Hartley claimed she would assistance her get one, though there was that small problem. Would she ever have any friends if she told them because she couldn't float in a car? Was there any approach she could get to that picnic?
This is a touching story of how Hannah, an Orthodox Jew, who found a approach to make friends and respect her religion. This tale, set in a Midwest in a 1930s, was desirous by a genuine lady who encountered a problem identical to Hannah's.
